Mexico City is HUGE! What zones make the most sense for a visitor to stay in?
It seems the Centro district would be good. I have heard that Zona Rosa is changing into more of a gay neighborhood. There other zones that are better? Are there specific hotels that are very good and a good values? It seems that air conditioning is a key requirement for Mexico City, is this so?
Don’t go zona rosa the only good thing about it its location, most of the hotels have a/c but you don’t need it, this is an easy explanation of the touristic zones:
Polanco: This is the best hotel zone(Hotel W, Marriot, Nikko, Camino Real, etc), its very nice and the most touristic, a lot of restaurants, bars, stores, and very near major museums Anthropology, Modern Art, and Rufino Tamayo, its also near the zoo and other attractions. Must Go.
Reforma: This is the “main street” and it connects the Polanco Zone and Downtown, there are some good hotels in this zone.
Zocalo, Centro or Downtown, its where you can fin the most important buildings, but i don’t recommend it for staying in an hotel in this zone.
Condesa: A hip zone, just like SOHO in NY, nice place for restaurants, and bars.
