home heating installation

While installation of home heat pumps is best left to professionals, there is no reason why you should not save money and perform some of the common maintenance work yourself. Here are some common maintenance tasks and how to do them.
In order to keep the outdoor components of your heat pump, such as the compressor, fan and coil, in good working order, they need to be cleaned and lubricated periodically. Remove the grille and clean out debris such as leaves and dirt from the updraft fans. If your vacuum cleaner hose is small enough, you can insert it between the fan blades to make cleaning easier. You should also replace the filters and clean and lubricate the other components on a regular basis. And if the piping insulation has deteriorated, replace it with new insulation.
Before the winter season when the heat pump will be in heating mode, check to see if the unit is still level on the pad by placing a carpenter’s level on the top of the metal cabinet and checking it from front-to-back and side-to-side. If the unit is no longer level, you can correct it by building up the ground under it with some stones.Air-source heat pumps work by bringing air from outside through refrigerant-filled coils to heat it, then distributing the heat throughout your home.
Regularly cleaning and maintaining home heat pumps is important, since small problems that are not addressed as soon as possible may later result in more expensive repairs. And if the pump seriously malfunctions, don’t try to fix it yourself but call in a professional repairman to fix the problem.
