New Air Conditioner Question Legacy Line Central Air Conditioner?
I am having a new a/c coil and air conditioner installed for my 1500 sq ft apartment in MA. We are on the first two floors of a three story building and the A/C condensors sit on the roof. My HVAC guy has recommended the Legacy Line Central Air Conditioner from Bryant:

Is anyone familiar with this system? Also, I’ve been quoted $4,300 for the unit, installation, inspection, electrician approval. Does this seem like a good choice? Thank you.
Your HVAC guy will recommend what he will make the most profit on.
After 35+ years in the HVAC trade, I wouldn’t have a Carrier product if they were free. There are a lot of equal to better quality products out there for less money (Goodman, Tappan, Armstrong just to name a few)
If you want top drawer, look into Rheem/Rudd (same equipment) or Trane/American Standard (again same equipment)
Legacy has a noise level of 74db. Their cabinets tend to rust, their coils tend to leak, I’ve replaced way too many compressors in very young Carrier (Bryant) products over the last few years. We replace a lot of defrost and fan control boards and defrost sensors in this stuff too. Their parts are high dollar! I believe they still use “timed” defrost controls rather than the demand defrost controls that eliminate many unneeded defrost cycles that cost you money.
The Rheem line has factory installed low and high pressure safety switches to protect your investment and a self diagnostic defrost control system.
I believe this Bryant is an R410a system, the copper lines should be replaced too.
I would say the price is fair, but the equipment choice is poor.
