Home AC not cooling properly, HELP!!!!!?
I am here because: We called the repair people. LAst November we got a brand new outside unit. When there was no cool air last month, we called the same people, and they said it was a bad coil. That was replaced. The air was cool, but temperature was rising inside during the day, up to 83, with thermostat set at 76. It does get it to that temp at night, and does shut off then. During the day it works continuously, but doesn’t seem to keep up with demand. It did keep up last year before the old sysytem died. They came back. Installed a new computer. Came again, with an HVAC engineer. Installed a new new coil. Came back again. Installed a larger coil. They have checked refrigerant levels, pressure, thermostat, etc. The air is coming out of the vents. It is cool, but not cold- about 73 degrees. It also does not seem very strong. They said they have no clue as to why it is not cooling the house. Same size unit as last one, same vents, same everything, only NEW and more efficient? HELP?
The air coming out of the ducts should be a lot colder,
60 degrees and less would be desired to have a cooling effect at all.
This could be caused by icing up of the evaporator coil (located at the blower unit) caused by dirty evaporator fins, dirty airfilter, or extreme high humidity in the house, assuming the freon pressure levels (high and low pressure of the outdoor compressor unit) are within acceptable limits.
If all of this is OK then the last thing to look at is the thermo-expansion control Valve located at the evaporator coil, that controls the flow of liquid freon, they do go bad sometimes and many of these are adjustable.
At the very last end, all of this could be caused by a slow running (defective) blower motor at the evaporator/ventilation unit. It happened to me a few times.

And at one time in a state office building where the AC showed the same problems, a contractor had put in a new wall, blocking the return-air to the ventilation unit.
I’m still laughing about this one. After removing the wall with sledge hammers and crowbars the building cooled down within an hour and everything was back to normal.

These kind of stories get me miffed, they have no clue!!!
Just too bad I’m most likely living too far away (Northern Michigan at the Canadian border) otherwise I’d jump in my service van and get there to solve this problem in no time, since I’ve done this for 30 years.
